Team Belives Browns Give Up Causing Loss to Denver

BEREA, Ohio -- With an extended weekend off to think about the state of the team, there are players within the Cleveland Browns' locker room who believe teammates quit during last week's 34-30 loss to the Denver Broncos.

In the aftermath of the Denver game, which Cleveland lost after giving up 21 fourth-quarter points, Browns running back Jamal Lewis was the first to bring up the subject of quitting. On Monday, as Cleveland began its week of preparation for next Monday's game against Buffalo, several players agreed with his sentiments.

"When you have a team like that that comes into our house and we're capable of beating them, that's the first thing that comes to mind,'' wide receiver Josh Cribbs said Monday. "We can't figure out what man, but that's what it looked like -- some guys quit. ... We know if everybody didn't quit, we would have won that ballgame.''

The Browns became just the fifth team in NFL history to lose back-to-back games after holding a second-half lead of at least 13 points. Cleveland gave up three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to Denver last Thursday, just four days after allowing 24 unanswered points to the Baltimore Ravens.

At 3-6, Cleveland is a long shot for a playoff berth. That may be why Lewis, a nine-year veteran who is rarely outspoken, decided to lash out about his teammates. He also said last week that some teammates "need to check their egos at the door."

"[Lewis'] input is very valuable to this team,'' Browns linebacker and team captain Andra Davis said. "So if he says something like that, then guys really need to check their egos."

Cleveland came into the season with playoff hopes. There are veterans on the roster who have won a Super Bowl, such as Lewis with the Ravens and linebacker Willie McGinest with the New England Patriots, but there is also a lot of young players who have never won consistently in the NFL.

Cribbs said he hopes Lewis' words resonate within the locker room and spark a run during the second half of the season.

"He goes out there and busts his tail every day, every game, and I do the same,'' Cribbs said of Lewis. "It hurts when people don't do the same and don't show the same will and don't show the same fire and desire for winning.

"It's a shame sometimes, but we just have to pull together as a team and weed out those guys and play the rest of the season out."

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson VS Forrest Griffin UFC

It appears that the “Big Plans” UFC President Dana White had in store for Quinton “Rampage” Jackson do indeed include a stint as coach on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF).

White made the major announcement during the TUF 6 Finale earlier this evening … kinda.

That’s because Forrest Griffin was the coach who was actually officially announced. His counterpart will be revealed during the Video Game Awards broadcast at 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, on SpikeTV.

It’s widely believed that Rampage will get the nod, showcasing two of the most colorful and charismatic characters within the organization on national television.

White also mentioned that the two coaches will fight one another sometime after the conclusion of the show. TUF 7, which begins to shoot in January and will debut on SpikeTV sometime in April 2008, will feature 16 up-and-coming middleweight (185 pounds) fighters.

It should not matter that Jackson and Griffin are in the 205-pound class — there’s not a pool of bankable stars at that weight to carry a program that has been struggling in the ratings.

Jackson and Griffin should provide the spark (and personality) necessary to get the mixed martial arts reality series back on track.

Both fighters are currently recovering from injuries in their most recent bouts. Rampage hurt his hand training for Dan Henderson and Griffin underwent shoulder surgery after his sensational upset win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

It’s fair to say that both should be fit at the conclusion of the show next year.

In addition, Dana White promised “significant and exciting changes” to the overall format of the show. It should be interesting to see exactly what changes are in store but until we get the exact details we are left to guess, but hopefully these “exciting” changes will add some life into TUF 7 and the quality of its fights and match ups.

One thing we do know is that with Rampage and Griffin as the coaches this next installment certainly won’t be lacking personality.

College Bowl Starts off Rough, But Is Sailing Along

Things couldn't have been shakier for college bowl this year. The trouble started when the team lost their adviser Rick Haught last year.

"Rick brought the whole thing to life. He was the prime mover behind it," professor Kurt Hackemer said.

Since Haught left, college bowl has been without an adviser. Graduate student Jon Radermacher, who is participating in college bowl for his fifth year, said he is working with coordinator Kristin Hoesing with Program Council to find an adviser for college bowl.

Without an adviser, Program Council was left to organize the campus tournament. Relying on another source to organize the campus event proved to be difficult and changing dates made it harder to get the word out for potential competitors.

They were also unable to get question readers and moderators who have consistently done it in previous years, including Hackemer.

"It's such a fun time. There's some razzing back and forth, especially when you've had students in a civil war course and they miss a civil war question," Hackemer said.

In years past, Radermacher said the tournament drew in eight to 12 teams of four competitors. This year they had four teams.

The top eight individual competitors from any team are chosen to participate on the regional team. Out of the eight, five participate in the regional tournament.

Because the pool was smaller from which to build a team for the regional tournament, it was difficult to pick members that would be successful at the regional level.

Only Radermacher and senior Andrea Peterson are attending regionals after going through the campus tournaments.

"It's not just the four smartest people that make the team," Hackemer said. "A good team will have a person who is good with current events, someone good with literature and those who know science and history."

But none-the-less the college bowl is still exciting and will be packed full of nothing but awesome football and crazed fans.

Montreal Canadians Get Sued, But Still Persue Cup

The City of Montreal has settled with merchants whose stores were ransacked during the 1993 Stanley Cup riot.

An all-news channel reported today the city will pay a total of $550,000 to storeowners and their insurers.

Of that amount, $200,000 will go for legal fees.

Many businesses were trashed 14 years ago after the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup by defeating the Los Angeles Kings.

Many merchants are not satisfied with the amount.

Almost 40 lawsuits were filed against the city after the rampage amid charges that Montreal police acted too slowly to contain the violence.

Those lawsuits sought about $2 million in damages.

The Canadiens have not won the Stanley Cup since but continue to try.

Serra Withdraws from UFC 79 Due to Injury!

UFC President Dana White announced Thursday that Matt Serra will have to withdraw from the UFC 79 card on December 29th due to an injury sustained during training earlier this week.

The current UFC welterweight champion, who was scheduled to fight Matt Hughes on the year-end card, suffered a herniated disc in his lower back on Monday following a routine training session in his Long Island gym.

“This is devastating news because they were so looking forward to fighting each other," said White.
“Unfortunately injuries happen and I look forward to Serra recovering quickly, and to getting him back into the Octagon.”

Serra had just finished a Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling training session and was demonstrating a move when he fell to the floor in excruciating pain. Serra went to the hospital and underwent an MRI, which revealed the herniated disc in his lower back.

“This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” said Serra. “I’ve never had a back injury before; I could hardly get off the MRI table. There is no way I can train through this, and I’m devastated, especially because this was such an important fight. I was looking forward to fighting Matt Hughes. All my training was going phenomenally until Monday – All I can do now is to get better and to fight again as soon as possible.”

Despite the disappointment of Serra-Hughes being scrapped, UFC 79 still features the long-awaited superfight between the two greatest 205-pound fighters of all-time, Chuck 'The Iceman' Liddell and Wanderlei 'THe Axe Murderer' Silva, as well as an intriguing bout between Lyoto Machida and PRIDE star Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, who will be making his UFC debut. The Ultimate Fighter Episode 10: Hughes VS Serra

It has been smooth sailing for Team Serra thus far on season six of The Ultimate Fighter, but this week two members of the squad will be eliminated by their own teammates in quarterfinal matchups. Who will survive and move on to the semifinals?

The Mark Ecko/ Barry Bonds Ball Debate

In September 2007, Marc Ecko was the winning bidder in the auction for Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th home run ball, paying $752,467 for it. To determine the fate of the ball, he started a website, www.vote756.com , which lets visitors vote on what they think should happen to it. Visitors' choices are giving the ball to the Hall of Fame, branding the ball with an asterisk before giving it to the Hall of Fame, and putting the ball on a rocket to be launched into space. Voting ended on September 25th, 2007 at 9:00 PM (EST)/6:00 PM (PST). Over 10,000,000 votes were tallied in all.

On September 26th, 2007, on The Today Show, Ecko revealed that the public, voting with a 47% plurality, wanted to brand the ball with an asterisk and send it to Cooperstown. 34% wanted the ball sent to the Hall of Fame without an asterisk and only 19% wanted the ball to be shot into space.

In reaction to the result of the vote, Dale Petroskey, the President of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame stated that, although he was "delighted to have the ball", the acceptance of the ball with an asterisk on it did not mean that Cooperstown believes that Bonds used performance-enhancing drugs to obtain his record.

Public reaction to Ecko's idea has been largely mixed.

and it feels great, and I really feel like I’ve got two quality guys (Speer and Mac Danzig) in the quarterfinals. I’m heavily outnumbered, but I really like my guys. They’re not just fill-ins, they’re quality fighters.

Tommy Speer comes from the mold I came from. I was a wrestler that liked to impose my will and use my strength, and that’s what Tommy does. He imposes his will, uses his strength, and there’s no quit in Tommy whatsoever.

I did have to get Tommy to show more emotion this week, and even though I’m a poker face when I fight, I’m not just out there doing moves, and if I can use J-Roc (Jared Rollins) as an example, he was a guy out there who looked like he was out there just throwing punches and doing moves. I think if he would have shown a little more emotion and a little more dedication and a little bit more heart, he would have went out there and realized that he wasn’t winning on his feet, so maybe he would have tried a takedown or something like that. The mental aspect is what I’m getting at. There’s so much more to this sport than just the physical game. I’m a true believer in the fact that the sport is 50% physical and 50% mental.

Moving forward, I don’t know if Tommy’s going to be more emotional, but after that last fight, he knows just how mental this game is. It’s tough to have someone have your back with a rear naked choke set in, and your own blood running down your face. Honestly, the blood didn’t bother me that much because I couldn’t see how bad it was from across the Octagon, but when I saw that rear naked choke, I really thought that fight was over. He (Jon Koppenhaver) had his hooks sunk in, and I thought it was just a matter of time until he was gonna get it. Tommy had to have been thinking that this fight could have been stopped at any time, so that was a big win for him. Now he knows that the fight’s not over until the ref stops it. He’s gonna keep this win in his mind for a long time, and it’s gonna propel him to the next level.

Matt Serra was up to his old tricks again, trying to do an impression of me. Was it a good one? I don’t walk around looking in a mirror, so I wouldn’t know how to do an impression of Matt Hughes. But it just goes to show you what type of person Matt Serra is. And no, I’ve never done a Matt Serra impression, nor would I ever think about doing a Matt Serra impression.

I don’t know what Serra’s got planned for the quarterfinals, but I think he’s gonna try to get his good guys to the next round and sacrifice his week guys. As far as my two guys getting put together, if they do that, I will throw a fit. Me only having two guys, I don’t think it’s fair to put them against each other, and I wouldn’t have done that if I was Serra because that would have meant that I would have to put two of my own guys together. It just goes to show you that Matt Serra doesn’t care about his guys – he cares about getting a guy to the finals."

NEMESIS: Serra & Hughes Share Opinions

Current UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra (16-4) is proof that The Ultimate Fighter not only produces top contenders in the UFC, it produces champions. The winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 4, Serra plowed his way through the reality show to win a “comeback” shot for the 170-pound title against then champion Georges St-Pierre. In what turned out to be an upset win of epic proportions for Serra, the Long Island native overwhelmed “Rush” with a barrage of strikes and stopped him cold at 3:25 of the first round. Now Serra looks to defend his title against the legendary Hughes and secure his own legacy in the UFC 170-pound division.

“I think this is going to be a tough fight. As a person, I can’t stand Matt Hughes, I don’t like him at all, but I respect him as a fighter,” said Serra. “You can’t deny what he has accomplished as a fighter, but he basically thinks my last fight was a fluke, like I don’t belong in there with him. I believe there’s one way Matt Hughes can beat me, but I can beat him several different ways, and I plan on beating him on all fronts.”
Hughes (43-5), a two-time UFC champion with seven combined title defenses to his name, has a deadly ground game that has earned him wins over St-Pierre, BJ Penn, Chris Lytle, Royce Gracie, and Frank Trigg (twice). After giving up his title to St-Pierre at UFC 65, Hughes returned to the Octagon at UFC 68 in March to take on The Ultimate Fighter Season 4 finalist Chris Lytle. He won via unanimous decision, and ever since then, he has waited for the opportunity to fight for the title and he wants to prove that he is not only the best 170-pounder in the division today, but that he is the greatest 170-pound fighter ever to fight in the UFC.

Could The UFC Go to Germany in 2008?

When Ultimate Fighting Championship owner Lorenzo Fertitta claimed in an interview two months ago that the UFC would be in Germany by 2008, it seemed like a pipe dream given the conservative nature of the country.

However Sherdog.com has learned that the UFC's move into Deutschland is far more advanced than even most experts in the fight game would have expected.

It all started with a rumor on a German message board: Oliver Copp, who does the German commentary on UFC DVDs, encouraged Tickets fans to root for Randy Couture (Pictures) in his title defense against Gabriel "Napão" Gonzaga, as "The Natural" would be "the perfect representative for the UFC's Germany debut in early 2008."

Copp had been an intermediary between UFC promoter Zuffa and German pay-per-view channel Premiere for the past couple of years, so his words carried some weight.

At first, the thought of Zuffa running a show in Germany seemed strange because the UFC does not even have a TV deal there. The contract with Premiere, which televised UFC pay-per-views from 2004 to 2006, expired after UFC 57 when the German channel did not accept Zuffa's increased financial demands.

For the past 18 months "Zuffa and Premiere have continued negotiations in order to put the UFC back on German TV," Premiere Product Manager PPV & onDemand Sport Markus Fortner told Sherdog.com.

Due to the abysmal buy-rates, no UFC show managed more than 5,000 buys, which is miniscule even by German standards -- even after more than 16 years in the market, the German TV audience has still not embraced the PPV concept at all. As a result, neither Zuffa nor Premiere was overly committed to reaching a new deal.

With the allegedly impending UFC debut on German soil, a TV deal is an absolute must now. Due to the restrictions of the German PPV market, Zuffa is concentrating on landing on one of the private networks that are freely available to anyone with a TV. The obvious choice is RTL (comparable to NBC in the United States) due to its close connection to other fight sports.

UFC 77: Franklin vs. Silva II in Cincinnati, Ohio

This event is scheduled to take place on October 20th, 2007 at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. With the main event being for the light heavyweight title between Anderson Silva and Rich Franklin.

Silva has dominated the UFC since arriving in June of 2006, beating Chris Leben handily at Ultimate Fight Night 5 before getting his shot at Franklin at UFC 64, a fight Silva won by TKO in the first round.

Silva and Lyoto Machida are the only two people to put a blemish on Franklin's record. Silva has since went on to beat Travis Lutter at UFC 67 and Nate Marquardt at UFC 73 with neither contest going the distance.

Silva is gonna have a mental edge over rich for sure, but i think rich will fight smart and do what he can to make the fight last as long as possible, probably by keeping his distance and picking his shots, its a 5 round fight and i think the longer it goes the more chance rich could have of landing a big bomb, marquardt was a little too aggressive and it cost him, silva is too good for that, rich needs to fight defensive and counter punch a lot, but still i don’t know how good his chances are, even with the hometown crowd behind him. rich is pretty much a striker and at least with marquardt and lutter those guys had a chance on the ground, silva really out matches rich everywhere in the octagon, its probably gonna be a tough night for rich. Silva's record currently stands at 19-4.

The Ultimate Fighter 6 - Rule Changes

The upcoming sixth season of Spike TV’s popular “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series debuts Sept. 19, and the show’s producers made a small change to the way fights were arranged.

In seasons’ past, if a coach’s fighter won his bout, that coach earned the right to pick the following episode’s fight. Essentially, the process allowed a coach to assure his top guys easy fights by picking off the opposition’s weakest talent.

The problem was no more apparent than last season, when Jens Pulver’s team beat B.J. Penn’s fighters in the show’s first four episodes.

”(Pulver) got to pick the first fight by wining (the coin toss),” Spike TV Senior Vice President of Sports and Specials Brian J. Diamond told UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com). “Team Pulver put their coach on a winning streak, and it made it very hard for B.J. to come back from being stuck in that rut.

“Now, what we've done is this. With the coin toss, you pick the first fighter or you pick the first fight. But if you pick the first fight, it only means you get to pick that one matchup because after that, it alternates.“

In other words, a coach can’t go on a winning streak and play matchmaker for an extended period of time.

“We wanted to make the whole process a little more balanced going forward,” Diamond said.

“The Ultimate Fighter 6,” which debuts after UFC Fight Night 11 on Sept. 19, will feature current UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and former champ Matt Hughes as coaches. The series concluded filming last month.

Will Renato “Babalu” Sobral Face Suspension?

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer today stated that Renato “Babalu” Sobral is unlikely to face a suspension for his actions at last weekend’s UFC 74 event, but the former UFC fighter will have his $25,000 win bonus withheld until a future disciplinary hearing.

The NSAC today voted unanimously to withhold the $25,000 — half of the total $50,000 Sobral earned in the undercard victory at the Mandalay Bay Events Center — until a subsequent hearing in which the commission will decide on a possible fine or suspension.

This past Saturday, Sobral initially refused to break a chokehold on opponent David Heath — and then admitted it during a post-fight interview. Sobral told the sold-out crowd that he wanted to “teach (Heath) a lesson” for disrespecting him during the previous day’s weigh-ins.

After dominating much of the fight, Sobral secured a fight-ending anaconda choke in the second round. However, after Heath tapped, Sobral refused to break the hold, even as referee Steve Mazzagatti tugged on his arm. Three to four seconds passed before Sobral finally broke his grip.

In yesterday’s UFC 75 media conference call, UFC President Dana White stated that Sobral’s contract with the UFC had been terminated because of the incident.

At today’s hearing, Sobral apologized without actually admitting any wrongdoing, according to MMAWeekly.com.

UFC: Brandon Vera VS Mark Dion in COURT

UFC heavyweight Brandon Vera and former manager Mark Dion will have their arbitration hearing heard by the California State Athletic Commission on Sept. 17.

The one-time top UFC contender and the MMA manager/City Boxing owner split after Vera claims his former agent kept him in the dark — and even lied to him — while the duo worked on securing a new contract with the UFC.

Vera was set to face then-heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia at UFC 68 in March, but with the contract negotiations stalled and Vera’s relationship with Dion deteriorating, Randy Couture instead got the fight (and won the title with a unanimous-decision victory).

The CSAC recently granted Vera permission to seek a new UFC contract without Dion’s involvement, but the relationship won’t officially be terminated until the Sept. 17 hearing in Los Angeles.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, a content-partner site of UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com), recently spoke to both Vera and Dion about their relationship.

While Dion chose not to comment until after their hearing with the CSAC, Vera was more than willing to discuss the situation.

In fact, Vera admitted that during his falling out with Dion, he even went as far as leaving town to avoid any potential violence.

Terrell Owens didn't take part in the Dallas Cowboys' first practice session Wednesday, a day after getting a break to rest his sore hamstring.

Owens wore shorts and spent part of practice working out with trainers, at one point doing high leg kicks alongside Flozell Adams, the 6-foot-7, 340-pound offensive tackle who got a break from practice while recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery this summer. Owens stood with other offensive players during team drills.

After the morning practice, Owens signed autographs but didn't respond to reporters' questions.

Coach Wade Phillips said Owens was sore -- not injured.

"He doesn't have a hamstring problem," Phillips said.

It wasn't clear if Owens would participate in the scheduled afternoon practice Wednesday.

Owens was on the field Tuesday in uniform, without shoulder pads or a helmet. He didn't participate in drills after Phillips told the 33-year-old wide receiver to take it easy.

The Cowboys were without their top two receivers in practice Wednesday. Terry Glenn was back in Dallas for arthroscopic surgery on his right knee that will keep him out for about two weeks.

‘Matt Hamill’ first came up as a prospective UFC 75 opponent, undefeated light heavyweight and The Ultimate Fighter season 3 winner Michael Bisping was, well, underwhelmed.

“When they first offered me the fight I wasn’t that keen to be honest,” the 14-0 Count admitted. “I didn’t really see what it did for me in terms of moving me up in the UFC light heavyweight division when it was first presented to me. At first, I wasn’t that excited, it is fair to say. I felt he was a backwards step because I won The Ultimate Fighter so I thought ‘What is the point of fighting someone else from the show?’”

Indeed, Bisping v Hamill was a fight which should have taken place – at least in the Ohio grappler’s opinion – during the semi-finals stage of TUF 3 in spring 2006.

Picked No.2 and No.1 respectively by coach Tito Ortiz, the Count and the Hammer, now 5-0, displayed enormous potential during their time on the reality TV show. However, a final four showdown was scuppered when Hamill’s injured arm was further damaged in winning his preliminary bout win over Mike Nickels.

Ironically, Hamill originally hurt his arm training with Bisping.

“We were drilling armbar escapes,” recalls the Brit. “You let your training partner put you in an armbar and then you drill escapes from that hold. I escaped from Hamill’s armbar pretty easily, to be honest, so he was desperate to escape from mine. He couldn’t -but he was too stupid and pig-headed to tap and starting trying to yank his arm out and that’s when he hurt himself. It was no fault of mine he got hurt. Saul (Soliz, Ortiz’s assistant coach on the show) was looking right at us and he said it was 100% not my fault.”

So, with Hamill refused medical clearance to continue, Bisping cut through replacement Ross Pointon and went on the live Spike TV final last June. Once there he demolished Josh Haynes to collect the TUF 3 light heavyweight trophy while Hamill had to make do with an off-TV undercard win over TUF alumni Jesse Forbes.

A frustrated Hamill said in interviews afterwards that it should have been him, not Bisping, inking the six figure TUF winner’s contract and said he was going to chase a showdown with Bisping.

Although both men have added two more wins since, it is the charismatic Bisping – on the verge of sports superstardom over in the UK – who has stormed ahead to establish himself as one of the most exciting up-and-coming talents in the UFC. And before his win over Octagon veteran Elvis Sinosic at April’s UFC 70, Bisping used this very website to rubbish Hamill as a prospective opponent.

Clearly delighting in retorting to his former TUF 3 teammate’s many taunts, Bisping refused to name Hamill (“I forget the guy’s name”) but rubbished the wrestling’s specialist’s submission striking game (“he couldn’t strike a match”, “he looks like a drunk outside a late night kebab shop”).

But Hamill continued to wage a PR war against the Count, calling him out at every turn and challenging the Briton to ‘prove who the real TUF winner’ is.

“The UFC really wanted the fight to happen, basically,” Bisping said. “And, to be honest, as much as I tried to ignore the guy it did wind me up a bit that he was trying to claim I won the Ultimate Fighter only because he got injured or whatever. All of a sudden I was like ‘Hell yeah I’ll fight him! I’ll knock his head off!’ And now I cannot wait to shut him up and kick him out of the UFC with the sickest shin on chin action you’ll ever see inside the Octagon! He’s going to learn that wrestling alone isn’t enough to win in the UFC.”

This is a fight Hamill has wanted for over a year. Can Bisping - who admits this wasn’t a fight he exactly dreamed of - match that level of hunger for victory?

“He’s going to be well ‘up’ for this fight,” Bisping admitted. “This is his big chance to shortcut his way onto a big show. In some ways I do feel like he’s trying to use me to shortcut his way on a major card and I guess you can say he has done that. OK, well done, Matt, now we’ll see how clever you look flat on your arse after I high kick your head off.

“And if he’s hoping that I’m gonna cut corners in training he’ll be very upset when he reads this – because I’m going to Big Bear to train for a month with Rampage Jackson. That’s how keen I am to put on the performance of my life and smash this arrogant egomaniac to bits. I’ve done a complete 180 – I’ve never been so excited and motivated for a fight in my career because I am fighting a guy I can’t stand personally. No way am I losing to this egomaniac – and I am really excited to go to California to train with a fighter of the level of Rampage.”

Bisping said he and the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion have struck up a friendship this year. “We’ve only really hung out three or four times but we really get on. He’s a funny guy, he’s great to be around and after we were in London last month for the UFC 75 press conference he was kind enough to invite me to Big Bear to train and spar with him.”

And Rampage, who matches his UFC 205lbs gold against that of PRIDE counterpart Dan Henderson on the same London supershow, seems delighted to have the Count join him in the famous Californian fight camp.

Jackson said: “Bisping's the coolest dude in all the UK. He’s white and English but we’re kinda alike in a lot of ways. He’s a bad ass like me, he‘s not scared of no-one.

"He’s a really good fighter - and he’s getting better all the time - because he’s fearless.

“I think I can help him out with his defence, because I got a lot of moves for defence I don’t think anyone else has even thought of. I’d be happy to share some secrets with Bisping and I am looking forward to banging with him and picking up some ground work from him."

Bisping, MMA 13-0, added: “Hamill is in for the beating of his life. I do respect the guy’s wrestling ability and physical strength but, to be honest, I don’t believe he belongs in or is entitled to fight at the pinnacle of mixed martial arts. He’s not a mixed martial artist, he’s a wrestler who is so pig-headed he doesn’t understand that’s just not enough to cut it in MMA. He thinks wrestling is the be-all and end-all of fighting but he’s gonna learn that shin on chin is just not for him!”

Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker said Wednesday that he remains shaken after an armed robbery at his Chicago home.

“When your life’s threatened, it’s obviously going to take some time to get over it,” Walker said in his first public comments since the robbery. “I’m not Superman.”

Walker and a relative were bound at gunpoint while multiple robbers took a car, cash and jewelry from his residence Monday evening.

“I’m happy that I’m unharmed and safe, and so is my family,” the three-time NBA All-Star told reporters gathered at his suburban summer basketball camp.

“The material things that were taken from me can obviously be replaced,” he said.

The vehicle taken in the robbery was found, abandoned, in Chicago on Tuesday morning.

Police have not announced any arrests in the case.

Walker said he probably would move out of the plush River North neighborhood where the attack occurred, but not out of Chicago.

In July 2000, Walker — then a Boston Celtic — was the victim of an armed robbery along with NBA center Nazr Mohammed as they sat in a vehicle waiting for a restaurant on Chicago’s South Side to open. Police said at the time that three men approached and demanded cash and valuables, which included a $55,000 wristwatch.

Walker averaged 8.5 points with Miami this past season and was a key part of the Heat’s run to the NBA championship the year before.

Top UFC stars Rashad Evans, Nate Marquardt, and Keith Jardine may soon be coming to a screen near you with a lot more frequency. The three Ultimate Fighting top contenders are slated to be featured in a pilot for a new reality show created by Raz Entertainment. Here’s part of a press release mentioning the new show:

“…2007 is a groundbreaking year for Raz Entertainment as it ventures into television, with a new reality sports series, and a pilot involving Ultimate Fighting Championship stars Rashad Evans, Nate Marquardt, and Keith Jardine.”

The trio of fighters all train with Greg Jackson of Jackson’s Martial Arts. Evans, Marquardt, and Jardine along with Elite XC’s Joey Villasenor will all be the focus of the new series. The show will follow the top contenders through their training, everyday lives, and fights. Now for a little background on where the fighters are headed.

All of the fighters are premiere fighters in their weight classes. Marquardt will have a middleweight title shot in under a week while Evans will be on the same card facing fellow top-contender Tito Ortiz. Jardine was quickly TKO’d at UFC 71 although he remains a top fighter in the light heavyweight division. Villasenor received an Elite XC title shot against Murilo Rua but lost the fight via TKO in the second round.

While the press release mentions only a pilot of the series with the explosive growth MMA is experiencing expect this show to be green lit and move into production later this year.

Raz Entertainment has also teamed up with the UFC to create an action movie set “in the world of Ultimate Fighting Championships”. While the vague description doesn’t let us speculate much on the exact nature of the film it appears that the movie is still a ways off although I will pass along updates about both the show and the movie as they come out.

Chauncey Billups Getting Traded Back t The Bucks?

The Pistons have a lot to talk about this off-season, but one of the things they were hoping wouldn't become an issue was the re-signing of Chauncey Billups. Pistons' GM Joe Dumars "promised" that he would re-sign Billups, and if he intends to keep that promise, it looks like he will have at least one team to compete with, and that's the Milwaukee Bucks.

Chris Sheridan -- who I'm told occasionally writes ridiculous things -- reported just over a week ago during a chat that Milwaukee wouldn't be interested in Billups, due to the fact that they could get a similar, younger version of him by re-signing Mo Williams for less money. Well, according to the Journal Times, it looks like the Bucks may be bringing an offer for Billups after all:

But now, only two weeks before the commencement of free agency, the Billups-to-Milwaukee rumor has resurfaced yet again. The scuttlebutt is the Bucks, who are one of the few teams that could have the money to sign a high-profile free agent, want an established veteran to orchestrate their offense and alleviate the pressure on star shooting guard Michael Redd.

Thus, there have been whispers the Bucks are working on a lucrative offer for Billups and will try to lure him away from the Pistons.
The Bucks are one of two teams, along with the Charlotte Bobcats, that can realistically afford to make a serious offer for Billups based on their salary cap situations. You know what they say in Hollywood: "The rumors are always true." But just because the Bucks will make an offer, it doesn't mean that Chauncey will take it.

If anything, I expect Joe Dumars to find himself in a similar situation to the one he was in last summer with Ben Wallace. Wallace ended up leaving over a few million dollars (and because he and his coach weren't exactly the best of friends), but the Pistons could have upped the ante to keep him. Chauncey loves playing in Detroit, and has no reason to leave, so it's up to the Pistons to make sure they don't let him go over a (relatively) small amount of money.
